I'll not be able to attend the usual weeknight raids anymore due to RL time constraints so i was curious as to the amount of interest in weekend raids. I'd like to get a overview of the situation before i try schedueling one so please write your thoughts, opinions or suggestions smile

Thanks very much

Hmm, during fall/winter I can usually make those on either day. I try to go golfing at least once a week now but that will end within a month or so.

I would be up for weekend raids Friday/Saturday and most Sundays. However, our family usually has family parties on Sundays and wouldn't be able to attend on those days.

Hit/miss for me. I RP tabletop once a week, rotating between Friday and Saturday night. Sundays are usually free.

Unfortunately I almost never get a weekend off, and on the rare occasion that I do I will be spending it with my family and friends smile

I'v been suggesting this for a while now. I think that it would be best overall to switch to weekends. Many of us are exhausted after school/work and can't really focus on late night raids during the week. Some wont be able to make it but i think our success rate would increase for some of the harder raids and bosses.

Granted I am young in the ways of Avalorien raidin . . . so take the following with that in mind.

From what I have seen . . . Jak makes the Avalorien raid wheel go round. Knowledge & leadership & willingness = one I like serving under.

No Jak = a raid spinning wheel . . . again . . . from what I have observed.

I couldn't disagree more with this. Wasn't a few weeks ago the very first time Avalorien dropped all 4 Skelles in one night in PR? We repeated that again the next week (though messily) and we will again tonight I have no doubt. AND I am placing my coin on the bet that ole Doomcoil is fallin tonight!!! cool

Ok, I've said this before and I will say it again.

I have NO problem whatsoever with other people leading raids, in fact I highly encourage it. That being said, I cannot schedule raids for the days other than I post them, it's not that I don't want to it's just that I cannot Wednesday and Thursday are my days off and the only nights I can schedule a raid before 12:00am EST, now if you want me to start posting raids at midnight on Friday and Saturday I can do that, but I don't think we will have much of a turnout. In conclusion if you do not like when I post my raids, please feel free to schedule your own.

P.S. I have to sacrifice spending time with my family and friends on my nights off to lead/participate in these raids, and frankly I'm getting tired of the "why don't we raid on other nights" stuff

I agree with Jakini, there is too much 'we should do this and that' but no one steps up to do it.

If people want weekend raids, they can schedule them if they wish, no one has ever said they were not able to do so.

I am with Jakini on this and speaking with him numerous times, I know he would like to have another capable raid leader, not just capable, but willing to do what it takes and what is appropriate to lead a successful raid. There are lots of us here who knows what it takes to lead a raid, how demanding it is on you both physically and mentally, and right now Jakini is the only one willing to do this.

Lets look at our progress with these weekday raids during Jakini's days off. How many ways can you say SUCCESS? Look at the gear, look at the experience gained, look how much better we are becoming as a raid force. That speaks for itself.

Here's a suggestion. Let's start another thread and anyone who is interested in leading a raid on other nights, please post your availability on what days are more suitable for you, explain what content you are strong with (where you believe you can standout in leading us through) and maybe the officer core will decide upon some extra raid leaders.

We're a big guild, more raiding options could be good but understand what you are getting into. At this time, twice a week has been a comfortable setting for most of us. I know some would like more options and would rather raid more, plus adding more raids could be beneficial to those who can't help to miss some and gives them a chance to do more raiding wise.

I've been thinking about how to reply to this post. I've almost started posts in the past, but have decided against it because of worrying about the response.

I've been in raiding guilds before. I've raided with many raiding guilds in the past. I was an original founding member of Soulforged. Because of personal reasons dealing with real-life issues and sickness in my family I had to take my leave of Soulforged.

I open like this for a couple of reasons. First, I am not new to raiding. I am not new to the way raiding works. Second, I have seen success in raiding guilds and it all comes down to one thing, in my opinion...

Leadership. I know that a lot is put on Jakini, being the one who posts the raids. I know that it is stressful to lead the raids week after week. It's hard to be the leader because a lot of times the leader is blamed when a raid fails. But, the thing that makes raids succeed is working together and having someone lead. Having one person who is stepping up telling the raid force what to expect.

It's like the saying..."Too many cooks in the kitchen..." I really think that if you (or we) want to start posting more raids, there should be a set group of people who are designated as the leaders or councils...whatever you want to call them. People who take the time to learn the zones and exactly what needs to be done to go into them. We cannot go into a raid zone and not know what to expect. And, we cannot have 8 leaders giving commands at the same time.

The other thing that would have to be addressed is what raid zones are going to be hit. From the amount of people who sign up for our raids, Wednesday and Thursday seem to work for most. ( It sucks Akaoma that things have changed for you and I'm sorry about that sad )) Whoever decides to lead the raid would have to make sure that the rest of the guild isn't locked out of the raid zone. That's why I think it'd be a good idea to have people step up and perhaps make a raid council.

Just my two cents. I know that I tend to be quiet and not offer a lot of insight, but I watch and I learn. And, the biggest issue that I've seen that dooms raids is too many people trying to be leaders or someone leading who doesn't know what to expect.

I think we have a wonderful group of raiders and we have a great time while raiding! I've been offered positions in raid guilds since joining Avalorien and have turned them down because I see a lot of potential in what we have started. I'm always willing to do what it takes to help us grow and suceed. I just hope we can do it in the right way smile

though I am currently inactive, I do think I can still post on these topics such as this.

We have tried now and again on making weekend raids, the few that want to go just doesn't out weigh the few that can't go. there just isn't enough people that want to raid on weekends.

Jakini is not the only raid leader in Avalorien. I myself have lead a few raids.

I am very glad to hear the progress of the guild so far. I am planning on making my reapearence back into the game once the end of the month comes, but I don't think I will be raiding, as I do have other raiding responsibilities in AoC.

Wow, im glad to see the amount of response this thread gathered and understand the need for a raid leader, i think ill try schedualing a raid at some point for the weekend to see general response to the idea and i might also bounce tells around with some people to get a general understanding on the Raid Leader situation. I unfortunately am not a good leader of groups or raids in addition to the fact i do not have a mic but i will attempt to start weekend raids in some manner or form.

Thank you for the Responses!

Weekends are bad for me generally, I am in the same boat as Breya.

I agree that leadership is important, and that having a defined group of raid leaders is a good idea. However I have lots of high end raid experience (from EQ1 mostly), and we've never relied solely on 1 person to lead a raid. There is simply too much to do for 1 person, all the time.

Duties can be divided and managed by a few key people, and as long as the raid force knows who these people are, it can work quite well, and take a lot of pressure off the raid leader.

Thank you Jak for all the hard work you put into our raids. I greatly appreciate it. **gives him a big hug and a round of applause**

I work every other weekend. That's set in stone and will never change. However, if a raid or some sort of large project is to be done when I'm off I'll gladly offer my aid, if possible. One thing I don't want is to find myself scheduled for a raid every night I don't work. Raids are stressful and the last thing I want is to find myself having heart surgery again because I was neglectful of that.

One thing that everyone can do to help alleviate the lateness of our raids is to be prompt. If a raid is scheduled for 9.30 that doesn't mean you (that's a generic "you", not an accusatory personal "you") log on and start looking for a port at 9.30 - it means you're in place to enter the raid zone at 9.30. Make the effort to move your character into place beforehand if you know you're going to be logging in close to raid time. **ends the lecture**

I'm thankful for all the hard work Jak puts in to make our raiding a reality, and it's been awesome watching us grow stronger for the short while that I've been a member. Aticia is correct in that our success boils down to leadership. I think other options can be a good thing so long as willing, qualified people step forward and are willing to coordinate efforts with Jak.

I'm glad to see there are more responses here as I really debated adding more to my original message as I am generally very happy with our raid force and our progress and the great atmosphere.

While this is the first time I am raiding in EQ/EQ2, I did spend the last 3+ years running a strict end-game raiding guild in another game and I see some of the same challenges here. There are a few easy things we can all do to help make our raids even better:

1. Raid Time ----
Be on time. When you're late, you're affecting the entire raid. If the raid starts at 9:30 that means we make the first pull at 9:30 and you're in the zone, buffed and ready to go. It doesn't mean login at 9:25 and rush around repairing, brokering and traveling. Some of our raids have started almost an hour late while we sat around waiting for just one or two people to get there. We shouldn't have to hold the entire raid while it waits for one person to get there - especially if there is an able body at the zone on the waitlist. Being in place at raid time should trump signing up and being late.

2. Voice Chat ----
Since we have it in-game now there really is no excuse for anyone to be in a raid and not (at the very least) be able to listen to the raid leader. I'd go so far as to say if you can't listen, you can't raid.

As a healer, I usually have my eyes glued to health bars for the entire raid. I love being able to hear commands and not have to try and watch raid chat typing as well. I LOVE hearing things like "pulling in 10", "dps stop", "all out, all in" etc... we should use our voice chat as much as possible -- (We don't have the problem of too much chatter since almost no one talks so this should be ok smile)

3. Leadership ----
Jakini has done a fantastic job organizing and running our raids. I know it takes a lot of work and time away from his family so it's much appreciated. I agree with Atiica that a raid council could be very useful and not leave Jakini feeling too burdened or responsible every week. I have seen too many raid leaders get burnt out by doing all the work themselves and I've seen guilds fall apart when their raid leader quit. We have very capable, intelligent people in this guild!

4. Priority ----
We are just starting to experience the effects of having too many people signed up for the raids and having to determine who sits on the waiting list. Taking into account for class balance, there should be some guidelines to keep things fair.

For example:
1. Official Raid Force Guild Member (signed up for raid)
2. Non Raid Force Guild Membert (signed up for raid)
3. Ally (signed up for raid)
4. Guild Member or Ally online (not signed up)

There may be nights we don't have perfect class balance because of these rules, but those nights will help us determine which classes we need to recruit the most.

Sorry if this all sounds too strict... at least I didn't go into DKP policies, healer assignments, AA and gear requirements, required addons, raid penalties, consumables, negative dkp, raiding probation etc. smile

Lol, I'm glad you didn't Maeryn! This guild is kinda like rehab for ex-hardcore raiders. It's nice to see that we can make progress without getting all hard-core-ish.
